Book summary¶

AWLL1.3 Pia follows Steve Adams's YFU year in Sweden (July 1979–summer 1980): Becky's pregnancy and abortion shadow the departure; Helsingborg romance with Pia Sandberg; Falkenberg virginity with Pam; Göteborg host family Jonsson—Sofia, Petra, Freda, Annie, ice dancer Katt, host sister Suzana (hockey bets), and Elizabeth's one farewell night. Karin Andersson holds Birgit's surrogate role (December sex; later Stockholm commitment without consummation until after Stephanie). Pia accepts open terms then deepens; ABBA and school life frame jealousy and honesty. Farewells: Abisko with Pam, Sofia's broken exclusivity rule, Pia's gentle finals, Copenhagen charter home. Mile-high sex with Pam scares; Judy war at Detroit; reunion anal and truth with Jennifer. Book ends: Blocks moving to Seattle next month—Jennifer's withheld bomb after homecoming.
