Book summary

AWLL1.7 Kara II runs May 1982–December 1982 from Alan Blanchard’s death through a shattered Christmas Eve engagement. Kara and Nancy stay in Milford; Steve defers IIT cohabitation one year, keeps Chicago with Elyse and Stephie, and takes a shortened Sweden trip under Kara’s “have fun until I’m there” rule (Karin, Pia, Suzanne, virgin Tina, Sofia). Summer brings vet-software sale talks, Jennifer in Seattle, Sandy and Ruth (Grace Church virgins), Anna, and Talladega with Emily Evans (Stephie's cousin; not Emily Nelson). Sophomore fall: tutoring, karate, Katy’s research, Anala, Julia one-night, Tatyana and Bethany bargains; Kara’s Joyce overnight blows up at Thanksgiving. Steve buys a ring and plans Christmas Eve proposal; Kara’s Wednesday Bible study convinces her their love is unrepentant fornication — she walks out; Steve trashes the ring and leaves Milford alone. Move-in June 1983 and marriage remain unrealized at book end.
