Book summary

Medical School II runs January 14, 1986 – August 26, 1987. Deacon Michael Loucks finishes M1 honors under parish and hierarchical crisis: Bishop ARKADY retires, Protodeacon Seraphim is deposed for finances, Mike is briefly suspended then restored, and Bishop JOHN (Jeremiah Loch) is enthroned June 1, 1986. Deacon Vasily reposes April 22 and is later restored by proclamation; friends are hit by Frank Bush’s hit-and-run (Lee dies; Robby survives) and Sandy Pierce dies of overdose May 28. Code Blue wins Battle of the Bands and keeps playing through July 4, 1987. M2 organ systems and preceptorships lead to MLE Part 1 (May 9, 1987 — Mike 99th %ile, class #1). After a perfect surgery clerkship with Doctor Roth, Mike begins OB/GYN at Good Samaritan (Cincinnati). Elizaveta graduates high school and carries Rachel Michelle (EDD Aug 20); Rachel is born by emergency C-section at Moore Memorial on August 26, 1987 — then Elizaveta codes as the book ends.

GM 6 Chapter Summaries

  • Chapter 1: Grandfather’s call about Bishop ARKADY nearly collapses Mike; Dr Evgeni and Dr Mercer urge care while he confides in Clarissa and keeps Elizaveta partly in the dark. Group sees Iron Eagle.
  • Chapter 2: Metropolitan investigation; Bishop PAUL locum tenens; Seraphim suspended. Dinner with Drs Forsberg and Smith; Mike begins to believe ARKADY is guilty.
  • Chapter 3: Early birthday at Taft; clergy meeting Columbus; Mike refuses full interim Protodeacon and is limited to Cathedral Sundays so studies survive.
